Newsgroup Downloading

An alternative to using Torrents to download stuff is Newsgroup downloading
firstly a lot of information about how this all works can be found on Slyck.com:-

Basically you need a newsgroup server, which you will have to pay for and a client to download stuff.  In the same way that P2P downloading uses torrents to tell the client where the files exist, newsgroups use NZB files.  There are a number of NZB sites that offer different content.  For a beginner Bintube is a good start, they offer the newsgroup server, the client software and an NZB search engine.  The software is very easy to use and does everything for you, it also offers the facility to start watching video content before the download has finished.

On Bintube you will need to create an account and then download the software, then search in the built in search engine and away you go.

Alternative newsgroup servers, Giganews is more expensive than Bintube but is an excellent service with high retention rates (the number of days files are kept on the server).

Giganews does not come with client software but there are a number of free clients available, a particularly good one is sabnzbd, this is the most advanced (but still quite easy to set up) client I have used and is highly recommended.  A number of add-ons have been written, including a Firefox status add-on and a vista sidebar add-on.
